Amruta Kaustubh’s book Wildhood Awakened is an enchanting tale of a city boy who moves to live around a forest. The book takes you on an adventure in the wild. It evokes intrigue and a sense of wonder and curiosity.

The experience of reading the book was no less than watching a movie. It evoked the innocence, charm and nostalgia of R.K Laxman’s Malgudi days.

Amruta’s writing is impressive and incredibly vivid. Without being pedantic it teaches you the importance of connecting with nature.

The message that “It gets lonely when we become disconnected from nature”, was insightful and stayed with me.

The characters are well-crafted and perfectly detailed. Each character falls effortlessly into the role they need to play to take the story forward.

The need to advocate for climate change and nurture the environment has never been more urgent than it is today.

This book beautifully imparts the message that every being on the planet is important and has a role to play, even insects. It shows how the smallest beings ensure the good quality of the soil that is key to life on earth. The book inculcates a love towards wild animals and encourages a relationship and connection with them.

Wildhood Awakened is a fascinating book written for young adults. And adults will love it too. It’s a quick read and has an intriguing storyline that will keep you hooked.

Would love to read about the adventures the little boy has in the wild in the time ahead. Does the medicine man share indigenous wisdom? Does the boy meet the jackal again? Does he connect with wild animals and stay with them like Mowgli did in The Jungle Book? Would love to read.
