As the week unwinds and the weekend comes close, listening to Working Class Hero by John Lennon on loop.

It’s a sharp and poignant commentary on capitalism. Love how he takes an anti-capitalist stance without actually taking it — protest poetry at its best!

My interpretation is that he’s asking us to see through the trickery of capitalist culture that paints an illusion of moving to the top and having a house on the hill, for all. If you fall for that deception then you stay a working class hero upon whose work the ruling class makes a fine life — the one they’d actually promised you.

Are we all just working class heroes? Or are you working for our dreams?
